Maybe it was the roses blooming in your mother’s backyard, maybe it was the first time you heard your baby’s heartbeat through the sonogram, maybe it was the white Christmas you remembered from childhood… We memorize the most precious moments with all of our senses.
So maybe when now you smell the roses you smile as warmly as you remember your mother’s, when you hear a heartbeat you feel a sense of security, and when you feel the cool snow falling upon your hair you think of the joyous Christmas morning.
Milan Design Week is one of the most important design events of the year. While MDW has been primarily about lifestyle design, in recent years, it has become the exhibition of all design industries. ASUS aims to participate in this international event to express ourselves as a user-centric-design oriented company. We are not just a computer manufacturer, but the architect who builds the bridges to connect people to their loved ones – people, things, events, memories…

Everyday we are tasting, smelling, hearing, touching and seeing things. As daily life could become mundane, we no longer pay attention.
Asus Design Center is proud to be a multi-disciplinary team. 2011 MDW Project is no less an ADC team effort,
but this time it requires a different set of skills from our daily work. We have set designers, prop designers,a lighting designer, a programming designer, a music composer, a video production designer, a visual communication designer, and architects involved in the Project.

For the best result, much time has been spent prototyping and fine-tuning this installation. To sync all devices is a difficult job. We need to wire and program everything so they operate exactly as we expect.
Since the devices are installed in a large space, the atmosphere is important. However, it’s not easy to mock this up physically, so we had to do many computer renderings to simulate the desired effect.

The week opens with a day for press only. All over Europe, our guests arrived full of the questions and curiosity. The MDW served as the EeePad Launch in Europe, so most of our guests circled around the EeePad in the Beyond Your Touch room. All of them were also greatly impressed by our Senses Remix installation after learning that all the materials were created purely by Asus Design Center and all the sounds were played purely by ASUS products.
This interactive installation runs in two sequences – performance mode and interactive mode.

Interactive Mode –accuracy of NX90.
Interactive Mode follows the Performance Mode. Each of the 16 EeePads triggers sounds from a corresponding NX90. The user interface guides the audience when to tap the devices, in time with the overall arrangement. Together a new song is created, this interactive experience symbolizes the response of the audience to collectively “sing” back in harmony with the NX90s.
