We did not actually plan it that way, but being the rebellious quirky bunch of designers that we are, it was little wonder that we made it our moving day. From Friday the 13th onward, Asus Design Center Shanghai has a permanent home at 1933 Shanghai (老場坊), one of China’s most prominent creative parks.
1933 Shanghai (老場坊) used to be an abattoir, mainly for beef that fed the expatriate community during the concession days of Shanghai in early 20th-century Shanghai. Ours is a 2-storey building off who was the main cattle pen.
A neighborhood steeped in history with interesting architecture and local lifestyle, which has not changed in decades, throws one back into the heyday of old Shanghai.
The vicinity of 1933 Shanghai is a big draw to the international art and design community, tourists and big brands, all seeking to make their mark in Shanghai .
We have already begun to make our mark; as team leader and seasoned rock climber, Flyer puts the final touches of paint around our logo on the facade of the building.
Stepping inside our little building, guests will be greeted with an open area which includes a leisure corner fitted with cozy couches and a TV where we willcan rest and, relax, and receive guests. Adjacent to the leisure corner is a Color, Material and Finishing (CMF) corner which is the playground of our CMF colleagues. Here, you will find a visually stimulating cascade of colors and texturetextures that changeschange with every season.
The little pantry and bar area is where we relax with cups of tea and cakes after hours of hard work sketching and discussing new ideas.
